This year two course is designed to build on the knowledge acquired during the related year 1 course. Although it starts from the fundamentals of electrostatics and magnetism topics previously covered in year 1 are treated fairly briefly. The main way in which this course differs from the year 1 course is in its use of vectors and, in particular, vector operators to describe the properties of electric and magnetic fields. This leads to the derivation of the four Maxwell equations and the prediction and description of electromagnetic waves.
A range of material is available for this course, both general and lecture specific.
